clinical experiments have been conducted since the year 1927 sufficient time has elapsed to treat a large number of cases and estimate the value of the method in preventing puerperal sepsis. To enable you to judge the influence of the treatment as well as the type of case dealt with I have distributed leaflets among the members of this society and for purposes of reference these have been labelled A, B, C, and D. The incidence of pyrexia (B.M.A. standard) in many maternity hospitals is about 12 per cent, and it occurred to Dr Thomson and myself that, if this high rate of infection could be diminished, an advance in
